【A Miniature Museum on Your Desk】Transparent specimens reveal the unique skeletal structures of organisms. Through staining techniques, red-dyed bone and blue-dyed cartilage are clearly visible. Perfect for display on a desk or bookshelf, these specimens are crafted from discarded or naturally deceased organisms, making them a unique collection that blends scientific education with aesthetic craftsmanship.

Family: Sparidae
The blackhead seabream, Acanthopagrus schlegelii, commonly known as "Black Porgy," is a near-shore fish. It has an oval-shaped, deep body, a slightly pointed snout, and a single dorsal fin. Identification can be made by observing the tooth structure, the starting position and shape of the dorsal fin, and the fin ray counts. In its transparent specimen form, the blackhead seabream shows 11 hard spines and 11 soft rays in the dorsal fin. The anal fin has 3 hard spines and 8 to 9 soft rays.
Fresh specimens have a silvery-grey body with dark brown vertical bands and orange-yellow pectoral fins. As a euryhaline fish, the blackhead seabream is commonly found in coastal waters, including harbors, mangroves, oyster racks, and breakwaters, where the environment is complex. Its diet consists of crustaceans and invertebrates. While it is now fully farmable, its delicious meat makes it a high-value species and a favorite target for many anglers.

Kairu Studio handcrafts transparent specimens (Diaphonization). In our "Miniature Museum on Your Desk" series, every specimen in the glass bottle is a one-of-a-kind collectible. The preservation liquid is safe and non-toxic, and the specimens can be kept indefinitely. Let's collect your very own biological guidebook!
How does Kairu turn fish transparent?
Transparent biological specimen preparation is a scientific method initially used for research. Kairu sources specimens from discarded fish, invasive species, or organisms that have died in farms. Without damaging the integrity of the organism, they undergo multiple chemical and dyeing treatments, allowing the remains of these creatures to be reborn as exquisite and unique transparent specimens.
